1. Competence required of auditor
Competence of ISO management system auditor
For each ISO management system standard, there is a standard that specifies the competence required of personnel involved in the audit and certification of the management system. It also specifies the competence of ISO management system auditors who perform audit and lead audit team as well as personnel performing certification tasks such as review of certification applications, review of audit reports, and certification decisions. For example, the competence requirements for ISO 9001 quality management system audit and certification can be found in ISO/IEC 17021-3, and the quality management system auditor must have quality management system knowledge, such as quality management principles, to perform the audit.
Requirements for GPC auditor certification
As a Personnel certification body, GPC certifies by evaluating and verifying individual with the knowledge and skills required for each management system auditor through fair evaluation criteria and objective test. Among the requirements of GPC's auditor certification, GPC checks individual's audit skills through the evaluation of academic background, experience, training completion and audit log, and verify the level of knowledge in relation to the audit performance through the auditor test.
- Graduation of secondary education
- Work experience of 5 years (including at least 2 years of experience related to application standard)
- Completion of ISO Auditor/Lead Auditor training at an accredited body within 3 years
- Audit log of at least 20M/D within 3 years
- Pass knowledge and attribution examination of GPC
2. Maintaining and improving auditor competence
ISO 19011 Guidelines for Auditing Management Systems
ISO 19011 is guidelines for auditing management systems, and it specifies the knowledge and skills required for auditors and lead auditors, and states that the auditor's competence should be continuously improved for effective audit performance. Audit competence can be maintained and improved through regular participation in management system audits and continuing professional development.
Requirements for GPC Auditor re-certification
GPC has established the auditor re-certification procedure according to the recertification process and maintaining and improving auditor competence that can be found in ISO/IEC 17024 and ISO 19011. GPC auditors must recertify according to the procedures of GPC, and the details related to re-certification are as follows.
- • The auditor certification has a validity period of 3 years, and an application for re-certification must be made before or after the certification expiration date.
- • Audit log and continuing professional development (CPD) for 3 years is required.
- • Audit log of at least 10M/D for 3 years
- • Record of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) of 16 hours for 3 years
