Overview of Remote Technology
The lockdown and travel restrictions caused by Covid-19 have brought significant changes to the organizations providing services. Pandemics such as Covid-19 have provided uncertainty, increasing the value and credibility of accredited certifications. Accreditation and certification bodies are helping to provide the same conformity services as existing audits and assessments, and many are using remote technology.

Survey on remote technology
In 2021, IAF, ILAC, and ISO surveyed remote technologies experienced through COVID-19. Through this survey, we can see the benefits of overall remote technology and the visible desire to adopt new technologies.
Key findings
- • Assuming the pandemic has disappeared, 60% of respondents preferred blended audit and evaluation, 19% preferred only when sites were far apart, and 21% preferred on-site audit.
- • When asked to what extent organizations can benefit from remote technology in the future, 33% felt to a great extent, 57% to some extent, 8% not much and just 1% none.
- • When experiencing remote technology through COVID-19, 71% were satisfied with their remote experience, 26% somewhat satisfied and just 4% dissatisfied.
While the response of respondents identified in the survey was generally positive, the majority (53%) said that using remote technology requires some preparation and takes a lot of time. To get more positive results with remote technology, a smooth Internet connection and security issues will be essential.
